There are 8 main types of animals that live in the Tundra. There is Red Foxes that you could find in every continent except for Antarctica. They are completely red except for the tip of its tail is white. They are rather shy animals so are hard to see often. Red Foxes also are more active at night and are found alone until mating season.
Wolverine
The second type of Animal is a Wolverine. When you think of Wolverine you think of the superhero with metal claws. This Wolverine is one of the most dangerous animals you can run into. At first sight it looks like a grizzly bear but a grizzly bear would not come close to challenging one. They are part of and the most common Weasel family.
Canada lynx
The third type of animal living in the Tundra is a Canada lynx which is my favorite. They have long legs and broad paws which has been proven to help them walk through the snow easier. They mostly hunt on snowshoe hares which are relate to the arctic hare. they usually travel and hunt alone and are slightly more active at night than at day. They are usually 2 feet tall and are from 2.5 to 3 feet long.
Beluga Whale
Another species found in the tundra is the Beluga whale. They live in a range from the Alaska, Canada, Greenland, and Russia. They have always been known to be smiling animals. Unfortunately, they have been now classified as endangered animals. There is five populations left of them and they do not migrate. They have a lifespan of over 30 years. Males get up to 15 feet long and females get up to 14 feet.
Atlantic Puffin
The fifth species in the Tundra is a Atlantic Puffin. They are found in part of Maine, Europe, and the Arctic Circle. The Atlantic puffin is a fast flier as it can flap its wings up to 400 times a minute. They get up to 55 miles an hour. They are carnivores and they live from 20 years and above. Their average height is 18 cm.
Tundra Swan
The Tundra Swan is found in Alaska in the Spring and migrates to the Atlantic Coast from Maine to North Carolina in all other seasons. They are classified as Omnivores. They live up to 20 years and are 23.1 lbs.
Arctic Hare
Arctic Hares are found in Alaska, Canada, and Greenland. These animals are interesting because they change their coat to white in the winter to be able to blend in with the snow. Its original coat for the summer is a gray-brown color. Arctic Hare are mammals and are Omnivores. They are about 6 to 15 pounds in weight and are 19-26 inches tall with their head and body.
Polar Bear
The Polar Bear has been given the three nicknames of Nanook, ice bear, and sea bear. They have been classified as dangerous. They usually feed on seals. They are mammals and carnivores. They live about 25-30 years. They way a unbelievable amount of 900 to 1600 pounds. It is almost as tall as a six foot man. They have also been known to be great swimmers. They live Greenland, Russia, and Norway.
Narwhals
Narwhals are sea animals that live in cold climates. They have a interesting nickname that is unicorn of the sea because of their long tusk that can grow up to an amazing 10 feet. They can been found swimming in the waters of Greenland and Canada. A interesting fact about Narwhals don't use their tusks for hunting but usually feed on squid.
Caribou
The Caribou is the animal that inspired the creation of a reindeer. Caribou can be found in northern and southern Alaska, Canada, Russia, and Greenland. A neat fact about Caribou is that they are the only deer species where the male and female have the same anthers. They are mammals and herbivores and they have a life span of about 15 years. Caribou are decently tall as they are 4 to 5 feet at the shoulder. They weigh about 240 to 700 pounds and they are currently classified as endangered.
